  • The design of the overhang showing it going up against the beam, coupled with the short depth of the beam does not allow for conventional forming methods and will require extra supports to build it as shown. Would a change to parapet wall or even a widening of the deck be considered to allow for conventional forming methods?
    Bidders should submit bids to construct the deck and rail system as shown in the plans, even if that requires an independent support system for the overhang forms. Value-Engineering Proposals will be considered. (04/12/2023)

  • On the recurring special provisions page both check boxes 22 and 23 are marked in regards to concrete QC. Is the intent to have the contractor do all concrete QC, or just QC testing for the superstructure?
    The QC/QA Special Provision is intended to cover the deck pour (superstructure) and approach slabs. The county’s Resident Engineer will conduct testing for the sub-structure concrete and other miscellaneous pours. (04/12/2023)

  • The edge of pavement to CR 380N is less than 30' from the back of the south abutment, and the approach slab partially extends into the intersection. This does not allow enough room for cranes or excavators to safely work, or to pour the approach slab. Will CR 380N be allowed to be closed during construction?
    Project calls for traffic control in acc. with BLR-21. S barricades are shown in the plans at 250N rd, diverting through-traffic away from the project rte. and toward IL Rte. 96. Contractor should ensure that the barricades are properly placed and rigorously maintained at the 250N rd. If done properly, the only traffic on the 380N rd. should be local traffic. To protect local traffic, the W bound lane of 380N may be closed as needed during const. Intersection has a wide flare and should be able to accommodate the const. activity with the E bound lane left open. W bound lane can be closed with barricades and cones. Two orange advance warning signs, ONE LANE ROAD AHEAD and YIELD AHEAD will be required and a YIELD sign with a YIELD TO ONCOMING TRAFFIC placard will be required on the 1st barricade that faces W bound traffic. Overnight closures should be avoided,but may be allowed for concrete curing or other unavoidable activities. Flaggers will not be required. (04/12/2023)
