  • On plan sheets 339, 349, 358, and 374 in the General Notes it states to use the moisture cured urethane system. I have never seem this called for by IDOT in this situation; usually Paint System 1 is called for. The spec'd system will need to be special ordered with minimum batch sizes of up to 300 gallons. Would the typical Paint System 1 be acceptable?

  • Pages 339, 349, 358, and 374 of the plans state in the General Notes the "fascia beams" are to be prepped and painted. In the past the word "entire" has always been used to designate the entire length of the fascia beam. Is this the intent here, or is only the fascia beams within the 5' zone to be prepped and painted?

  • SP page 8 specifies that during Phase 2 step one is to remove 2" of HMA surface. Standard Specification allow for a maximum lane differential of 1.5" with a milled edge. Please clarify.

  • Mobile Barrier Trailer: 1. What are its required uses? 2. With the speed of the project, will the Dept. supply more than one unit when required? 3. Basis of payment is confusing. There are pay items for 701401/701406. Please clarify. 4. Sheet 105 of 388 limits work area to length of MBT. Milling, paving, underdrain, guardrail, pavement marking, etc.? Please explain.
    a. The intent is to utilize this system when a lane closure with temporary barrier is required for a spot location. Instead of setting up concrete barriers this system will be utilized. b. Only one unit will be supplied for this contract. c. The basis of payment for the MBT is a lump sum, which includes all signs and barricades that are required for lane closures per the mentioned standards. The inclusion of the standards in the SOQ are for when the standards are utilized but the mobile trailer isn't. d. Milling, paving, underdrains, guardrails, median work at the noise walls, and pavement markings will not use MBTs. These will be completed with lane or double lane closures per the applicable Highway Standards. The work hours for these types of work items are limited by the peak hour restrictions chart.   • Sheet 105 of 388 depicts drums at 100' delineating the work zone and 50" centers on the opposite shoulder. Does this apply to all lane closures? More than once the plans state that all drums/barricades adjacent to a open lane of traffic will have mono-directional lights. This sheet does not require the lights. Are lights only required where show in site specific locations?
    Lane closures shall be per the applicable standards, and all traffic control devices shall be utilized per the standards. Sheet 105 is only applicable for the MBT utilized locations. All delineation devices shall have working lights per the standard highway details and specifications. (02/18/2025)

  • Sheet 102 of 388 (?) states numerous times that various items of traffic control are included in "TCP, Special". This pay item is for the traffic control for IL 159 over I-64. Please clarify.

  • SP page 8 states that "Work zone lighting will be required for I-64 and ramp resurfacing at ....". Is this referring to approved "balloon" lighting or is something additional being specified? Please clarify.
    There are special requirements for work zone lighting. All policies for lighting required by the standards and Standard Specfiications while working at night for the type of work being completed shall apply. (02/18/2025)

  • SP page 7 restricts work on mainline bridge surfaces on I-64 to one bridge in each direction at at time. the same page states that RT 157 and Old Collinsville Rd bridges shall be performed concurrently. Please clarify.
    The reason for the restriction of one bridge in each direction is to only allow one lane closure in each direction within the construction limits due to temporary concrete barriers being utilized on I-64. The other structures are overhead or overhead sign structures that will utilize daily or short time lane closures with and without the mobile barrier trailer which can be completed while other work is being done as approved by the engineer. RT 157 and Old Collinsville Rd performed concurrently is correct. If the eastbound bridge at RT 157 is being staged, then the westbound bridge at Old Collinsville road can be staged and worked on, as this is one bridge in each direction. The limit is that at no point can both eastbound or both westbound structures be staged at the same time. (02/18/2025)
