  • Much of this low-speed mainline paving will be along existing PCC gutter not identified for replacement. Will these areas be included as miscellaneous pavement segments “where the contractor is not responsible for adjoining surface?”
    Paving along existing PCC gutter, not identified for replacement, is a (very) common occurrence in D-1 and typical for (almost) every project. The determination will be made by the IDOT Resident Engineer in the field. Potential bidders should consider that these areas will not be included as miscellaneous pavement segments “where the contractor is not responsible for adjoining surface. (02/17/2022)

  • There is a Hospital Emergency Entrance located on Ogden at California. Emergency vehicle traffic will be required to be allowed onto the mat prior to sufficient cooling and will effect the smoothness of the finished pavement. Will these areas be included as miscellaneous pavement segments where “conditions beyond the control of the contractor preclude the achievement of smoothness levels typically achievable with mainline pavement construction?”
    This determination can/ will be made by the IDOT Resident Engineer in the field. (02/17/2022)

  • The Surface Testing of Pavement Specification calls for Miscellaneous Pavement segments to be determined by the “Engineer”. Would this be the Resident Engineer the Design Engineer or someone from the IDOT Bureau of Research? And, has the determination been completed yet and if so is it available?
    The determination has not been completed and is not available. The miscellaneous pavement segments will be determined by the IDOT Resident Engineer in the field. (02/17/2022)

  • IDOT Test Procedure 701 for IRI Surface Testing of Pavement requires measurements taken in “both the left and right wheel track of each lane.” Ogden Ave. from Kedzie to Western consists of four travel lanes with two additional service drives each consisting of a travel lane and parking lane. This is a total of six travel lanes and two parking lanes. Which lanes of the eight total will require testing?
    All of the pavement in this contract will be classified as miscellaneous pavement and should be tested as detailed in the special provision. The Contractor will need to provide a 16 ft (5 m) straightedge for the final surface to be tested. The outer parking lanes would not need to be tested. The determination on which of the 6 mainline lanes will be tested will be made by the IDOT Resident Engineer in the field. Potential bidders should consider that all 6 lanes (center of lanes) on the mainline may be tested. (02/17/2022)
