  • Since the Ultra-Thin Hot-Mix Asphalt Surface course is being paid by the SY and not by Ton, will all the tons placed for the Material Transfer Device be paid for ? With the existing roads having irregularities (ie rutting) and without any milling or leveling be performed, the thickness will vary as will the tons placed.
The contractor should assume that the MTD will be paid for in the same manner as the adjusted plan quantity of surface course mixtures. The irregularities would fall under the 103% on page 200 of the standard specs. (04/19/2019)

  • Traffic Control: • Will it be possible to perform any of the guardrail work during the day light hours 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM or a restricted 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM??
Arterial lane closures not shown in the staging plans will not be permitted during peak traffic volume hours. Peak traffic volume hours are defined as weekdays (Monday through Friday) from 5:00 AM to 8:00 PM for southbound US 41 and 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM for northbound US 41. (04/19/2019)

  • Vert Adj Guardrail: • Guardrail Type D is prescribed to be vert adjusted. Please confirm both faces of the rail will be measured for payment. • There are guardrail posts that appear to be set in concrete footings. Please advise how this work will be paid, as this deviates from a typical vertical adjust guardrail pay item. • The balance of the guardrail has been driven into HMA shoulders that have been cored and capped with concrete. Please advise what we should do.
The vertical adjustment of guardrail will be paid for at the contract unit price per foot. The adjustment is at the post. Both faces of the rail will not be measured for payment. The guardrail appears to be set in HMA shoulders and capped with grout. If the actual site conditions are different then changes will be handled as written in the standard specifications for road and bridge construction. The Department is in the process of issuing an addendum, please monitor the website for the addendum.. (04/19/2019)

  • X6330900 Vert Adjust Guardrail: • A schedule of quantities is not included with plan set. Please provide a schedule of quantities for this work. • Please advise what the design team has determined for the Vertical Adjust guardrail. Raise it up or lower it down. • Some of the guardrail is NON-MGS and some is MGS system. Which standard are we using to determine the actual adjustment?
    • A schedule of quantities is not available. Bid according to the contract. • The intent is to adjust the guardrail to standard height after the overlay has been placed. • Bid according to the contract. (04/19/2019)

  • since this is a patch first project without any milling or overlay shouldn't there be a HMA Remove over Patch, 9". Due to the thick HMA over concrete at 9", why would you need to perform a 18" patch - I did see the note 4 on plan sheet 6, but that does not make sense, a 9" CL D patch would make sense.
The contract specifies to patch first and should be bid accordingly. (04/12/2019)

  • on page 33 of the special provisions there are 6 mix designs shown, which is the one that is to be used for this project ?
The desired mix is identified on the Typical Section sheet of the plans. (04/11/2019)
