  • In a follow up to a previous question, will the existing plans for Structures No. 2, 3 & 4 be provided with the addendum or posted as "Additional Information"? The previous response said they were "available" and did clarify if they would be posted.
Electronic copies of the existing plans can be obtained by reaching out to the contact information provided in the special provision for AVAILABLE REPORTS (D1 LR). (04/18/2024)

  • How many signals need to be retimed as part of the Optimize traffic signal system pay item? Can you please provide a list of these signals?
The Optimize Traffic Signal System Pay Item includes all signals shown in the Proposed Interconnect Schematic on Sheet 370. (04/16/2024)

  • Structure mounted noise abatement wall has four bays that are under 4' post spacing. Please confirm the post spacing as this does not seem reasonable with the IDOT structure mounted noise abatement wall details.
The smallest post spacing is 5’-6”, all others are 8’-2” or greater. Some of the dimensions shown are from a post to the nearest expansion joint. Sheet 564 to 568 will be part of an Addendum to clarify all post spacing dimensions. (04/15/2024)

  • Along the shoreline at Bridges 056-3301 and 056-6406 there are gabions. How will the removal of those gabions be paid?
Removal of the gabion baskets will be paid for as GABION REMOVAL. A pay item and special provision will be added as part of an Addendum. (04/15/2024)

  • On Sheet 501 the Pile Cap Detail states “14” Dia. Treated Timber Piles under Retaining Wall (12” Dia. Piles Under Roadway)” on Sheet 502 the note under the Pile Table states “Note: Piles with a Nominal Required Bearing exceeding 153 kips shall have a minimum diameter at 36 inches from the butt of the pile of 14 inches.” Please confirm the 153 kip piles are 12” diameter.
Yes, the nominal required bearing of 153 kips is based on an assumed 12” diameter pile. The bigger diameter piles are needed to reach the higher bearing value. Sheet 502 will be updated as part of an Addendum to clarify that 12” diameter piles are for 153 kips or less. (04/15/2024)

  • Based on the Note on Sheet 502, if a pile is driven and doesn’t reach bearing, and is either withdrawn and replaced, or second pile is driven. How will the driving of the first pile be paid? Wil the driving and furnish of the second pile be paid?
Section 512 in the Standard Specifications shall be followed, including using waiting periods to establish additional capacity and using splices, in the event a driven pile does not initially reach bearing capacity. (04/15/2024)

  • Are Test Piles going to be utilized for the timber piles? There doesn’t appear to be any mention of them in the contract documents. How will the furnish lengths be determined?

  • 1. Please provide As-Built drawings for the Removal of Structures No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4. For Structure No. 1 and Structure No. 2 the drawings call them out to have Sheet Pile Retaining walls, however that doesn’t appear to be the case. Please Clarify.
As-built drawings do not exist for any of these structures. However, existing plans are available for Existing Structures No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4 and are representative of actual conditions. While existing plans are available for Existing Structure No. 1, they do not appear to be representative of what was constructed. The notes for Existing Structures No. 1 and No. 2 have been revised and will be part of an Addendum to clarify they are not comprised of sheet piling. (04/15/2024)

  • Need addendum on striping. Plans are a mess. Difference in items need to be spelled out. Not just thrown in legend. With an asterisk to cover black contrast. Grooving items will need to include Preformed Plastic items. Regular vs contrast. as well as Preformed thermo/black. As IDOT is using a new product no special provision is provided on these items.
The Pavement Marking Plans have been reviewed and approved and include the pay items and quantities intended for this project. Grooving will be paid for separately as indicated in the plans. (04/15/2024)

  • Is the removal of the 3- 78" Temporary Culverts at Structure 056-3301 to paid under the culvert removal item? The hatch on sheets 405 & 406 imply it is incidental to Removal of Existing Structure No. 1. Please advise.
Removal of the temporary pipe culverts shall be according to Article 542.09 of the Standard Specifications. Sheet 405 and 406 will be updated as part of an Addendum to clarify that removal of the temporary culverts is not part of removal of existing structures. (04/15/2024)

However, the existing ground improvement system is comprised of subbase granular material, portland cement concrete base course, welded wire fabric, expanded polystyrene foam, and polyethylene film. This is shown in the cross sections as well as the typical sections. Removal of the existing ground improvement system is paid for as Special Excavation.
