  • For the signals at IL 157 at Lincoln, IL 157 at IL 15, and IL 111 at 55/70, are these to be programmed to allow both directions of of the main line (157 and 111) to be green at the same time?
Signal timing will be determined in Construction and monitored and modified as needed throughout the duration of the contract. (11/04/2019)

  • On sheets 68-69 (I-64 to Collinsville Rd) the temporary signals are drawn as temporary portable signal trailers however the spec calls for signals to per section 890. Are temporary portable traffic signal trailers allowed for this work?
Portable traffic signals are preferred, but span wire on post may be needed to fit field conditions. (11/04/2019)

  • To clarify a previous question, there are two (2) interstate week end closures for the work on RT 15 ramps (5 & 6). As opposed to one closure per ramp. Why not two weekend closures that allow work on both of the ramps at the same time?
The special provision calls for separate weekend closures in order to minimize the traffic impacts to the motoring public. (11/04/2019)

  • Aggregate for shoulder at the guardrail end sections is paid for as incidental in one section and separately in the other.
An addendum is forthcoming to clarify this issue. The Plans and/or specifications will be revised accordingly. (10/29/2019)

  • Does patching on South section have to be completed before the North section is closed?
The intent of the project is to patch as necessary in the South section prior to closing the North section. This is to allow the South section to remain operational while the North section is closed. (10/29/2019)

  • The 9” pavement under the overhead structures with clearance issues doesn’t show a stabilized subbase or aggregate base.
An addendum is forthcoming to clarify this issue. The Plans and/or specifications will be revised accordingly. (10/29/2019)

  • The HMA surface removal on Black Lane and NB Harding Ditch bridges is to be removed and replaced without damaging the waterproofing membrane system. Can the milling and resurfacing be 1.5” instead of 2” in order to avoid the WMS?
An addendum is forthcoming to clarify this issue. The Plans and/or specifications will be revised accordingly. (10/29/2019)

  • Can the work on Pocket and Lake be done in the 10 working days?
An addendum is forthcoming to clarify this issue. The Plans and/or specifications will be revised accordingly. (10/29/2019)

  • The painting note on the I-64 structures is not clear. If entire fascia beam is to be painted, when/how is this going to be completed?
An addendum is forthcoming to clarify this issue. The Plans and/or specifications will be revised accordingly. (10/29/2019)

  • Underdrains are at different locations in each set.
An addendum is forthcoming to clarify this issue. The Plans and/or specifications will be revised accordingly. (10/29/2019)

  • Additional pre-closure work in the plans, but is not listed in the Sequence of Construction SP.
An addendum is forthcoming to clarify this issue. The Plans and/or specifications will be revised accordingly. (10/29/2019)

  • The north set of plans doesn’t detail the Longitudinal Joint Sealant like the South set does. Where is it being used?
Please refer to the detail on sheet 29 of 316. (10/29/2019)

  • There is 800 cu yd of earth excavation in the plans that is not scheduled.
The 800 cu yds of earth excavation is an estimated quantity to be used to fix slope washout areas, see general note 13 on sheet 3 of 280. (10/29/2019)

  • Bunkum & Forest are in the north section and are to be painted. How can this be completed in cold weather?
See contract documents. The Contractor must schedule his work such that there are no lane closures on I-255 after the completion date. (10/29/2019)

  • Sheet 3, Note 9 on the IL-15 to I-64 portion of the project does not quantify the number of changeable message signs as normally provided here. Based on sheet 51 should this quantity be 10?
An addendum is forthcoming on this issue. The calendar day quantity is based on 10 changeable message signs. (10/29/2019)

  • The "Proposed Shoulder Curb Detail Undermined Pavement Areas" detail on sheet 155 of 316 has a footnote that says "increase width as necessary to remove undermined area". if this is required, will this increased removal width be replaced with HMA Shoulder Pavt. or Variable Width Gutter Flag poured with the B-6.18 Curb and Gutter, or possibly PCC Base Course with HMA Shoulder 4" placed over the Base Course? How will it be Paid for? This could become an issue from Station 1190+00 to 1197+09.95 Rt.
It can be replaced with HMA or concrete but will be paid for at the contract unit price for Paved Shoulder Removal and HMA Shoulder 10”. (10/29/2019)

  • Since it appears all existing shoulders will receive a 3.25" to 4" overlay with new material, is a 6" "shoulder plug" sufficient thickness on top of the proposed underdrains?
An addendum is forthcoming on this issue. Plans and/or specifications will be revised accordingly. (10/29/2019)

  • On the southern sections of I-255 the new concrete barrier wall is to set on a proposed PCC barrier base. How is the removal of the existing HMA shoulder beneath the existing concrete barrier wall paid? It does not seem to be on any quantity schedule
The existing concrete barrier wall extends below the shoulder, see existing typical sections. (10/29/2019)

  • How is the removal of all the earthen/aggregate fill within the existing barrier walls paid for?
An addendum is forthcoming on this issue. Plans and/or specifications will be revised accordingly. (10/29/2019)

  • Is it required to place HMA shoulders on ramps in two lifts since they are only 3.25" thick?
Yes, please refer to Article 482.05 of the Standard Specifications for more information. (10/29/2019)

  • The pavement marking schedule calls for 460 SF of preformed letters and symbols. However, the pay item shows 1,198 SF. Please clarify. In addition, the IL-15 to I-64 section does not call for grooving of letters and symbols and the northern section shows a quantity much larger quantity of grooving than letters and symbols which does not seem to be correct. Please clarify.
The letters and symbols are represented in the pavement marking schedule and also in the pipe underdrains schedule (triangles on shoulder). The pipe underdrain triangles do not require grooving. See Grooving for Recessed Pavement Marking special provision for how the letters and symbols are grooved in a square/rectangle shape, causing these areas to be larger than the area of pavement marking letter and symbol. An addendum is forthcoming to add grooving for the letters and symbols on the north section. (10/29/2019)

  • Is it permissible to perform RPM installation within the working day period during "off peak" hours?
No additional lane closures are allowed on I-255 after it is open to traffic. (10/29/2019)

  • The plans require the "grooving" of all preformed pavement marking as opposed to inlaid. Besides the additional cost associated with this method, it requires much more time to complete. With this project being so constricted on time, please consider changing to inlaid pavement marking.
After further consideration, no changes are warranted at this time. Please bid accordingly. (10/29/2019)

  • There has been a focus on reducing the “tracking” of tack coats used for HMA paving. SS1-vh used for tack coat on milled surfaces (especially mill PCC surfaces) when applied at the full rate (.05 pds/sf) has proven to be most appropriate tack coat . There is a distinct difference between this tack coat and normal SS1-h and its ability to adhere to milled surfaces. Please consider changing the specified tack coat for the pavement resurfacing.
After further consideration, no changes are warranted at this time. Please bid accordingly. (10/29/2019)

  • Sheet 56 of 280. Should the left lane be dropped after the Forest Blvd overpass and the middle lane be dropped after Ramp A/CD? Sheet 58 of 280. Should left lane be dropped after Mousette Lane and middle lane be dropped prior to RT 15 off ramp (NB I-255 to EB RT 15)?
Two lane closures are shown on the plans according to highway standard 701446. If the highway standard needs to be modified to fit field conditions, this will be coordinated in Construction. (10/29/2019)

  • Sheet 65 of 316. Should the left lane be dropped immediately after Horseshoe Lake Road and the middle lane be dropped after Ramp A (SB I-255 to WB I-55/70)? Sheet 66 of 316. Should the left lane be dropped prior to State Street and the middle lane be dropped after State Street?
Two lane closures are shown on the plans according to highway standard 701446. If the highway standard needs to be modified to fit field conditions, this will be coordinated in Construction. (10/29/2019)

  • For the south section closure, the detour information does not clearly define if what loop ramps of I-64 are closed/open during this section of work. It appears during the south section closure that the two south loop ramps (ramps D and G) remain open as well as ramps A and E. Ramps C, H, B, and F appear to be closed. Correct?
    This is correct. (10/29/2019)

  • For the north section closure, the detour information does not clearly define if what loop ramps of I-64 are closed/open during this section of work. It appears during the north section closure that the two north loop ramps (ramps B and F) remain open as well as ramps C and H. Ramps A, E, D, and G appear to be closed. Correct?
    This is correct. (10/29/2019)

  • Can we assume that work (gore remove/replace, curb remove/replace, guardrail, remove/replace, pavement markings, aggregate shoulders, etc) on ramps 5 and 6 at RT 15 can be performed using traffic control 701456 without an interstate closure? If so, what are the restrictions?
All work requiring a lane closure or shift must be completed during the weekend closure. Any off-road work that doesn’t require a lane closure or shift can be completed at any time. (10/29/2019)

  • There are two weekend closures included in the project. The Special Provisions only describe this pay item to be used in association with Ramps 5 and 6 at Route 15. Does that mean we are allowed two weekend closures to perform work (i.e. underdrains, milling, paving, etc.) on these ramps?
Yes, one weekend closure per ramp. (10/29/2019)

  • On the north section the majority of the Class A3 Rip Rap goes along the back of the proposed B-6.18 Curb and Gutter. The detail on sheet 155 of 316 says this is to be a minimum of 12" thick but it will be variable according to the detail with a theoretical thickness of 20" at the back of curb. The south section does not specify any thickness in any details so it would be determined to be 8" thick minimum per the IDOT Spec. It would simplify things if this were changed to a price per ton item.
After further consideration, no changes are warranted at this time. Please bid accordingly. (10/28/2019)

  • The SEQUENCE OF CONSTRUCTION special provision says that IL 15 ramps shall be patched and resurfaced under weekend closures. The INTERSTATE WEEKEND CLOSURE special provision says that patching on ramps 5 and 6 of the IL 15 interchange shall be completed during off peak hours prior to the weekend closures. Will you please clarify?
An addendum is forthcoming on this issue. The special provisions will be revised for clarification. (10/24/2019)

  • On sheet 29 of 316 and on sheet 155 of 316 it shows the combination curb and gutter type B-6.18 with a gutter pan thickness matching that of the asphalt shoulder thickness. The IDOT Highway Standard 606001-07 sheet 2 of 2 shows a gutter pan thickness of 9" when poured adjacent to flexible pavement. Is it the intent to pour the thickness of the gutter pan to match that of the HMA shoulder?
In accordance with Article 105.05 of the Standard Specifications, detail plans hold over Highway Standards. (10/23/2019)
