  • Please clarify the extent of the HMA coring: 100% of the guardrail at SN 057-4719 will be positioned in the new widening which will require coring per 630201(not noted on plan sheet 2), and 100% of the guardrail located existing box culvert, Station 118+00, will be driven into an aggregate shoulder. Is this what you mean with your previous response? It sure would have been helpful if specific details were provided for each location so all could see plainly what is needed.
The referenced standard was not added in the plans since we were intending to have the guardrail posts driven through the new HMA shoulders at this location. The bridge (Str. 057-4719) is the only location that the guardrail will be installed directed through the new HMA shoulders. The remaining guardrail will be installed in aggregate shoulders. (05/24/2021)

  • The Paving Schedule on plan sheet 2 suggests that the widening is only 2 ¾” total thickness. Is coring even necessary with a HMA shoulder thickness of 3” or less? Does this need to be cored or will IDOTY allow the posts be driven through the HMA surface without coring?
The overall thickness of the shoulder will be 6.75” with the HMA Binder & Surface Courses being installed over the 4” HMA Widening. However, it was our intent to have the posts driven through the new HMA shoulders at Structure 057-4719. (05/24/2021)

  • Is it intended for the SPBGR TYPE A to be installed per Local Roads Standard BLR26-3 or Midwest Guardrail Standard 630001-12?
Standard 630001-12. An addendum will be issued to add the Standard to sheet 2. (05/12/2021)

  • How is the auguering of shoulders to be achieved for the Type 5R's as the spacing of the posts won't leave much of the widened shoulders left after augering.
The preferred method would be to drive the post through the widened shoulders. If an auger is used, maintaining the shoulder shall be the responsibility of the contractor. (05/11/2021)

  • Will all guardrail for all pay items be going through the newly widened shoulders? The cross section provided do not make it clear.
Only the guardrail at existing Bridge (STR#057-4719) will be going through new widened shoulders. (05/11/2021)

  • How will the anchor bolts for the new type 5R's be required to be set as they are connecting to an existing structure with anchor bolts already installed
Existing anchor bolts shall be used. (05/11/2021)
