  • Due to the overhead ComEd utility line conflict, the sheet piling for the north side of the tracks will need to be driven by a crane sitting on the south side of the tracks. This will require all three tracks to be shut down. Please advise what the allowable working hours are along the railroad.
    Metra/BSNF said that there will not be a time when all three tracks can be shut down for sheet pile driving. Working hours along the railroad (within 25' of the outside track CL) are stated in the specifications as 9:30am to 2:30 pm Mon-Fri. Please note that existing overhead aerial lines on the north side are currently being relocated to underground as stated on page 46. Guidelines for Temporary Shoring (page 160) states: 3. Contractor Responsibilities: 1. The Contractor's work shall in no way impede the train operations of the Railroad and must be coordinated with the local Railroad operating department. 2. The Contractor shall develop a work plan that enables the track(s) to remain open to train traffic at all times. (04/20/2018)

  • Specifications state any railroad flagger costs are borne by the agency or contractor. Please specify if IDOT will cover flagging costs under an allowance etc., or if this is the contractors responsibility to include in our bid.
    Do not include flagging cost in bid. Please see note 1 under "Contractor" on sheet 43 of plans. (04/20/2018)

  • Plan Sheet 31 notes an item in the top left corner to be relocated. Is this the location of the missing proposed 18 Ft. post with relocated EVP equipment?
    On sheet 31, the traffic signal post near the NW quadrant of Walnut and Taylor is mismarked as relocated. This should be the new 18' traffic signal pole in question with a relocated EVP equipment. (04/18/2018)

  • Plan Sheet 31 notes traffic signal equipment to be re-located. Please specify what equipment is to be relocated.
    The pay item for "RELOCATE EXISTING EMERGENCY VEHICLE PRIORITY SYSTEM, DETECTOR UNIT" shall include the light detector, the confirmation beacon, mounting bracket, and all appurtenances required to attach to the proposed traffic signal post. New cabling has been accounted for separately. (04/18/2018)

  • Pay Item 87502520, lists quantity of two(2) but only one(1) shown in the plans. Please advise where second 18 Ft. post is to be installed.

  • AISC: • Please confirm that the fabrication of Steel Railing SPL and Furnish and Install Handrail items will need to be performed by a fabrication shop certified by AISC as prescribed in IDOT Article 106.08 ‘Certification of Metal Fabricators’. Furnish & Install Handrail: • Please confirm that it is acceptable to utilize ASTM A 500 Grade B as is customary with this type of railing.
    Yes, shop fabrication shall be performed in a shop certified by AISC ‘Certification of Metal Fabricators’. It is acceptable to utilize ASTM A 500 Grade B for the railing shown on the plans. The railing still needs to be galvanized per the special provision. (04/17/2018)
