  • Tangent Terminals: Q1) Please advise if the tangent terminals will be required to be MASH approved or remain with the current NCHRP 350 standard? Q2) Type 6, and 6A traffic barrier terminals: The standard calls for an INCIDENTAL double nested W-Beam rail element when there is a continuous curb running the length of the terminal. Q1: Please identify which locations, if any, will have a continuous curb under the T6 terminal that would necessitate a double nested W-Beam.
A1) Upon further consideration, the previous answer has been revised as follows: Effective for contracts let after June 30, 2018, Guardrail Barrier Terminal, Type 1 (Special) Tangent will be required to comply with MASH testing criteria. (Devices that are currently approved for use as meeting the NCHRP 350 testing criteria will no longer be allowed on contracts let after June 30, 2018.) Devices that comply with the NCHRP 350 testing criteria will continue to be allowed on all active contracts let on or before June 30, 2018. The Qualified Product List for Traffic Barrier Terminal, Type 1 (Special) will be revised effective July 1, 2018 to reflect this change. A2) It is the bidder's responsibility to inspect the site of the proposed work and become familiar with all the local conditions. Coordinates for each location can be copied into Google Maps street view for verification. (06/12/2018)

  • 50900200 Steel Rail, Type 2399 - On sheet #8 it calls for the Existing T-1 tubing to be removed and keep the existing posts. Are you mounting new 2399 tubing to the existing posts only? For reference the 2399 rail has a 6'-3" max spacing and T-1 is a 9'-6" max spacing. Please confirm.
Yes, the intent is to remove the existing T-1 tubing, keep the existing posts, and mount the new 2399 tubing to the existing posts. (06/07/2018)

  • AISC: Weak Post Guardrail: Will the posts for this item need to be fabricated by an AISC CERTIFIED shop as per Article 106.08 of the Standard Specifications? Location 15: Plan sheet 11 shows 1337.5 LF of GR A 6 FOOT and the Schedule of Quantities on plan sheet4 does not address this quantity. Q: Will the quantity of GR A 6 FOOT be increased to account for this run of guardrail?
An addendum is forthcoming on this issue. The quantity of SPBGR, TY A 6' Posts will be increased accordingly. (06/07/2018)
