  • X5012502 Concrete Removal Special – Special provision page 4 provides a general description for this, with reference to details identified on the plans. We need additional information on the scope of this work, and don’t find where this work is detailed on the plans? Please advise where to find plan details or add plan details.
The pay item and corresponding special provision for this should have been removed as we do not anticipate the need for any piers or other concrete structures similar in nature being removed. (01/17/2023)

  • Are the cuts and fills listed per station in the cross sections correct?
No, they are not correct as shown on the cross sections. Contractor should bid as per quantities listed on the Summary of Quantities. (01/11/2023)

  • Are the earthwork quantities correct? Several cross sections appear to show incorrect cuts or fills (e.g., Sta 67+00 fill of 802.53 CY, 70+00 fill of 782.11 CY, 93+00 cut of 9112.90 CY, 93+04 cut of 1146.02 CY)
The earthwork quantities in the SOQ are correct. (01/10/2023)

  • Regarding facia stringer lamination – Plan 82 shows lamination with bolts or lag bolts, plan 87 shows 16d nails (which are probably not long enough). Interior stringer lamination is shown on plan 82, which should not be required for single stringer members unless that is intended at lap splices, but that would be in conflict with lap detail on plan 86. Also 12d nails would not be sufficient.
The note with the asterisk on sheet S1.0, plan sheet 82, refers to the 15’ span over River Street. This note denotes triple laminated fascia stringers and double laminated interior stringers are required on this span only. The laminated interior stringers referred to on sheet 82 are required at the 15’ span only. I agree the nails are not long enough. 50d nails should be used for the laminated interior stringers and at the splices. (01/09/2023)

  • Per a previous question and answer, although KDAT is noted on plan 86 for the 3” x 8” decking, this has been changed and will not now be required. KDAT adds significantly to cost and lead time, and in fact may not be practically available for this variety of sizes of material. Could KDAT be removed from all remaining items on the boardwalk as well?
The curbs and rails are preferred to be KDAT & should be bid as such. If availability becomes an issue in construction, we would then need to make a decision then on substitution. (01/09/2023)

  • Regarding boardwalk wood member treatment, plan 84 notes 8 and 9 use the same “CCA” designation for two different treatments. Should note 8 be “CA” ? Also, on plan sheet 86, application rates vary between 0.60 and 0.06 on both CA and also on CCA treatments – shouldn’t CCA be 0.60 and CA be 0.06?
Note 8 on plan sheet 84, “CCA” should be “CA”. “CA” treatment should be “0.06”. “CCA” treatment should be “0.60”. An addendum will be issued. (01/09/2023)

  • X5800110 Waterproof Membrane (Special) is most typically used for spray-on membrane system, rather than Std Spec 581/1061 per the Special Provisions. 58100200 Waterprf Membrane Sys is typically used for 581/1061 - please confirm system to be used. Also, per plan sheet 11 the membrane is applied over unknown substrate 2 feet below extg grade. We don’t presume this to be an underlying bridge deck as both extg structures are a stone arch. What substrate is the membrane applied to?
The pay item number is reflective of the engineer’s intent for the application to be a spray-on membrane system. As per the typical section found on Sheet C10.0 (11 of 96) and with the understanding that the existing arch structure has a P.C. Concrete bridge deck at the top (noted from previous improvements plans as PC Concrete Cap), the spray-on membrane system should be applied directly to that concrete bridge deck. (01/09/2023)

  • The ‘typical abutment section’ shown on plan 11 appears to be in conflict with the concrete abutment wall “concrete corbel detail” shown on plan 91 and elsewhere. Plan 87 appears to be a combination of these two details. Please advise.
An addendum will be issued. (01/09/2023)

  • Regarding boardwalk stringers, plan 82 indicates facia stringers are triple laminated and interior stringers are double laminated, however other details indicate facia stringers are double laminated and interior stringers are single members. Please clarify which is correct.
The note with the asterisk on sheet S1.0, plan sheet 82, refers to the 15’ span over River Street. This note denotes triple laminated fascia stringers and double laminated interior stringers are required on this span only. (01/09/2023)

  • Please confirm the detail for the 470 lf of Bike Rail, Special.
The detail for Bicycle Railing, Special is the Pipe Handrail detail on Sheet 56 of 96. (01/09/2023)

  • Where / how does the ‘43”alternate high railing detail’ come into play on this project, where the rail is perpendicular to stringers rather than parallel to stringers as is detailed elsewhere. Reference plan sheet 86.
The alternate 43” railing detail does not come into play on this contract. (01/09/2023)

  • Looking for more details in the plans, Is there a City Standard, Or can the design engineer provide a list of acceptable manufacturers for X0326806 TRASH RECEPTACLES and Z0003850 BENCHES
Any of the following are acceptable: X0326806 Trash Receptacles 1) U-Line 32 Gallon, Funnel Lid, Black Model No. H-2293BL 2) TreeTop Products 32 Gallon, Rain Bonnet Lid, Black Model No. 4ZB4240 3) The Park and Facilities, Executive Series Flare Top Trash Receptacle with Flat Lid Powder-Coated Black Model No. 398-9119 Z0003850 Benches 1) U-Line 6’ Bench with Back Black Model H-7969 2) TreeTop Products Helena Bench Black Model SKU 2Z14116-PW 3) The Park and Facilities – 6’ Essential Series Aluminum Bench with Back – Powder Coated – Black Model No. 398-9100 (01/09/2023)

  • Regarding boardwalk 3x8 decking, plan 84 – 87, there are conflicting notations regarding grade with some calling out grade 1 and others grade 2. Also, on plan 86 there is one note requiring the decking to be KDAT, but don’t find this on any of the many other decking notations throughout the plans. Is KDAT required for the decking? KDAT adds significantly to cost and lead time. Plan 84 note 3 seems to anticipate and account for decking shrinkage after installation rather than KDAT?
The decking should be #1 grade and is not required to be KDAT. (01/09/2023)

  • Regarding timber pile lengths for the boardwalk, plan sheet 84. Estimated bottom of pile elevations are provided, as well as pile tip dimension below existing grade. But driven bearing value is also provided. Which will govern – pile tip elevation or driven bearing value? If bearing value governs, and longer pile lengths are required to achieve bearing, will pile splices and/or additional length be compensated with 109.04?
An addendum will be issued. (01/06/2023)

  • For the pay item ‘Permanent Sheet Piling’ 1.) What is the required section modulus for the sheeting? 2.) What is the required height of sheeting wall? 3.) What section / member will be required for the sheeting cap? 4.) What paint system will be required? 5.) Would weathering steel be considered as an alternate to painting the sheeting and cap?
    1. As per the special provision for Pay Item 52200015 PERMANENT SHEET PILING, the design of the permanent sheet piling will be a delegated design item. The section modulus required will be per the approved design as per section 522.06 of the Standard Specifications. 2. Height of the sheeting wall is shown in the cross sections of the plan set. 3. Section / member for the sheeting cap will be approved by the Engineer as part of the shop drawing process. Please see the special provisions or further direction. 4. Paint system to be approved by the Engineer as part of the shop drawing process. 5. Alternates will be considered in the shop drawing review process. (12/22/2022)
