  • Please clarify the General Note in Addendum 2 pertaining to the statement regarding "at areas within 5 ft of supports". Does this mean that the top flange of the steel beams/girders have a potential lead paint primer in areas 5 feet from the supports (i.e piers, abutments) and areas outside of this (i.e. quarterspan, midspan, etc) are not anticipated to have a paint system on top of the flange.
Yes, it is believed that it is unlikely there is any paint on the top flange since there were studs on the top flange in the positive moment areas in the original construction. However, it is not an absolute certainty. The area that may possibly have some lead based primer is the area within 5 ft of supports, due to an older policy that is no longer followed. (01/12/2022)

  • The contract plan details for the slope wall repair work (Z0065700) are shown for the south abutment of the south bridge (Sht 171) and the north abutment of the north bridge (Sht 285). The remaining 2 abutments, 1 at each bridge are not shown. It is understood that the areas are not limited to the areas shown and shall be determined in the field, however the quantities depicted do not nearly account to the plan quantity. Please clarify the representation of the plan quantity.
The repair areas shown in the plans are from the Bridge Condition Reports dated Jan. 2019 for the south bridge and Feb. 2019 for the north bridge. It is believed the inspections occurred over 1 year prior to those dates. Historically repair areas identified in construction are larger than those identified during the bridge inspections quantities. The plan quantities represent this experience. (01/12/2022)

  • Addendum A revised plan sheet 101 and referred the light pole information to the structural drawings. Those drawings do not provide anchor bolt diameter size. Please provide.
Anchor bolt diameter shall be 1" diameter. (01/12/2022)

  • Drawing 250 indicates a cover plate repair at 18 locations. However, no locations are shown. Similar to drawings 154-156, please provide a plan view for each location for the steel repair shown on drawing 250.
We believe that the information provided on sheet 250, particularly the Plate Thickness Table, provides adequate location information. (01/12/2022)

  • Please confirm if there is to be any type of stone base under the areas of proposed temporary pavement. If so, please provide details and a method of payment.
The Department is in the process of issuing an addendum, please monitor the website for the addendum. (01/10/2022)

  • Please provide the plan limits of protective shield for SN016-2468 -- a quantity is provided in its Bill of Material, however details for its limits have not been provided on its General Plan sheet.
The Department is in the process of issuing an addendum, please monitor the website for the addendum. (01/07/2022)

  • The Contract Drawings indicate on Sheet 190 that temporary rail crossings will be required for access for the work at Pier 25. The Contract Specifications indicate that temporary crossings for the contactor will be constructed and removed at the expense of the contractor. Please clarify (if it is known) if the actual installation and removal of these temporary crossings will be the responsibility of the railroad (or a subcontractor of theirs) or this project's contractor.
The Department is in the process of issuing an addendum, please monitor the website for the addendum. (01/07/2022)

  • Contract Drawings Sheets 65 and 73 indicates a PR VEGETATED SWALE per Detail DU-1. Please clarify the method of payment for this work as this is an area that is outside of any other earthwork that is shown.
The proposed vegetated swale work is paid for by Earth Excavation and Seeding Class 4A. The seeding is shown on the Pavement Marking, Signing & Landscape plans on plan sheet 79. There are 888 cubic feet (33 cubic yards) of Earth Excavation that are included in the project quantities to account for the proposed vegetated swale. (01/07/2022)

  • Please provide a breakout of quantities & required depths for X1200247 TURBIDITY CURTAIN 1,350 SY at their 3 locs (2 at the Chicago Sanitary & Ship Canal, & 1 at the Des Plaines River). The contract plans provide lengths of 244', 194', and 298', but no depths are provided. The contract specs state "The bottom of the curtain shall reach the bottom of the waterway using 1 or 2 vertical sections as required."
For the purpose of the Turbidity Curtain quantity calculation the depth of the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal is 19.38 feet (6.46 yards), and the Des Plaines River is 12.27 feet (4.09 yards). Therefore, the calculated Turbidity Curtain area for the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal is approximately 943.16 square yards (((244+194)/3)*6.46) and the Turbidity Curtain area for the Des Plaines River is approximately 406.3 square yards ((298/3)*4.09). (01/07/2022)

  • The completion date for this contract is October 01,2023, meaning that this project will be ongoing during the 2022-2023 winter season. Please clarify the intent and/or requirements for construction staging/traffic staging for this contract during that winter.
Construction staging stays in place during winter. (01/07/2022)

  • On plan pages 60-62 sign panel details the detail on mounting states overhead. The maintenance of traffic plans page 55,57,59 looks to be ground mount, can this be clarified. The signs on the 3 pages in questioned are they all temp info signing?
The label on the detail is incorrect. The intention was for the signs to be ground mounted. We did not want to impact the overhead sign structures aside from covering existing signs were called out. The signs on pages 55, 57 and 59 are to be paid for as temp info signing. (01/07/2022)

  • For the 3 in-stream work locations requiring Cofferdams Ty-2 and rip-rap scour protection work, please provide the most recent channel information (i.e. cross-section data/graphs/sketches, etc, at both the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal and the Des Plaines River). This is information needed for the cofferdams and the turbidity curtains.
The Department is in the process of issuing an addendum, please monitor the website for the addendum. (01/07/2022)

  • The Contract Drawings (typical roadway sections, roadway plans, etc) do not provide any reference for Items 31101100 SUB GRAN MAT B and 31101400 SUB GRAN MAT B 6. Please clarify where these items of work are being utilized.
The Department is in the process of issuing an addendum, please monitor the website for the addendum. (01/07/2022)

  • The earthwork schedule of quantities in the contract drawings on sheet 16 do not represent the entirety of the contract quantities for the earthwork, as the table is only for the south crossover. Please provide additional information for the work that was not shown on this sheet (i.e. earthwork schedules/tables, etc).
The Department is in the process of issuing an addendum, please monitor the website for the addendum. (01/07/2022)

  • SN 016-2467 indicates the presence of lead with the paint system on the existing steel in the general notes, however SN 016-2468 does not seem to have this note. Please confirm if lead is also a concern for SN 016-2468. Please also confirm if the top flanges of the structural steel of these two bridges have a coating of lead paint upon them. If so, please also clarify how the removal of the spot locations of lead paint for the installation of the proposed shear studs is paid for.
The Department is in the process of issuing an addendum, please monitor the website for the addendum. (01/04/2022)

  • If they are available, please provide as-built drawings for the existing bridge structures - SN 016-2467 and SN 016-2468.
The Department is in the process of compiling the requested information and will post it to the additional information folder on the website. Contractors should monitor the website for the updated information. (12/20/2021)
