  • 1. Sheet 19 – Finishes: Calls for 10 ends of trusses to be painted. Per IDOT, this note is intended for steel vehicle bridges only and not steel pedestrian bridges. Please advise if 10’ painted ends is required. 2. Truss safety railing members not identified. Please advise if members are to be angles, HSS or either per AASHTO. 3. Is truss rub rail steel or wood? 4. Are PE sealed plans and calculations required? The boardwalk appears to be fully engineered in bid plans?

Are PE sealed plans and calculations required? The boardwalk appears to be fully engineered in bid plans? PE sealed plans and calculations will not be required. (05/21/2020)

  • In regards to the boardwalk, specification calls for wood to be treated with EPA approved preservative. CCA is specified for most of the boardwalk and railing elements. In 2003 the EPA and lumber industry agreed to discontinue use of CCA treatment for residential use which also included walkways. Current CCA EPA registration is for Industrial use only. Recommend changing timber preservative specification.
    Trail/Boardwalk is not in a residential area and thus does not fall in this category; CCA treatment would be an option. (05/21/2020)
