  • On the beam end repair, the diaphragm blocks horizontal flow of UHPC to the upper corner of the repair area as shown on Repair Detail R1, R9, R10 on Sheet S-7. Will IDOT accept a blocked out area from the end of the beam to the diaphragm?
    Size of the repair as shown on R1, R9 and R10 is achievable per details shown on Sheet S-7. Beam areas from the end of the beam to the diaphragm are most severely deteriorated and it is critical to incase them in UHPC. Therefore, it is our recommendation to execute the repair as shown on the drawings. (06/13/2022)

  • Can the blocking supporting the diaphragms at beam end repair 1 be removed to allow for formwork to be installed, will it be required to be reinstalled after the beam repairs have been completed?
    The existing wood blocking can be removed and doesn't need to be reinstalled after the repairs are completed. (06/07/2022)

  • The schedule requirements specified in the special provisions for Ultra High-Performance Concrete require a submittal of 30 calendar days prior to trial batch and mockup, which must be completed 45 days prior to construction would only allow 2 working days for final construction. Please confirm the contract duration of 50 working days will not begin until after approval of UHPC Trial Batch and Mockup.

  • Beam end repair details shows both core holes on the same side of the diaphragms, has the designer confirmed the UHPC will flow to the side of diaphragm opposite of the core and fill up to the bottom of the bridge deck?
    The UHPC repair for the end diaphragm only requires the UHPC material to be applied on one side of the diaphragm. See details on sheet S-8. (06/07/2022)
