  • Plan sheet 56 details a concrete ramp at station 30+50 LT with handrails. How will the concrete work (retaining wall, rebar, etc) be paid for?
There is a quantity FOR pipe handrail that will be paid for separately. All the concrete work (retaining wall, rebar, etc) for this location will be paid for as PC CONC SIDEWALK 4. (07/21/2020)

  • Specs pg 13–Concrete Steps 3rd Para. states that “Handrails will be measured separately for payment.” The pay item quantity for pipe handrail is only 22 feet which is the 22’ located at 30+50 LT for a concrete ramp. Plan sheet 56 under the concrete steps detail also states that “handrails are required for all locations with 2 or more steps.” There are a few step locations that have 2 or more steps to be replaced. Please clarify if the handrail will be required and how it will be paid for.
This quantity for pipe handrail at the locations with 2 or more steps was not calculated by mistake. When submitting a unit price, please account for the handrail required at locations with 2 or more steps and it will be paid for as pipe handrail. (07/21/2020)

  • Plan sheet 56 details a concrete ramp at station 30+50 LT with handrails. What should the void under the proposed ramp be filled with?
The void should be filled with CA-6 and this will be included in the cost of PCC Sidewalk 4. (07/21/2020)

  • Special provisions page 10 – Roof Drain Adjustment – Per the specification, roof drain adjustments are incidental to the contract. It also states that the engineer will evaluate each roof drain separately and will determine the appropriate method of adjustment. This would be impossible to account for since no information is provided. Could this be paid by article 109.04 in lieu of being incidental?
The intention of roof drain adjustment was that this will be a simple elevation adjustment due to the new sidewalk grade. For example, the contractor may need to remove the end section, cut and remove a small section of pipe, and re-attach the end section, all work and materials to be included in the contract. Since roof drains often vary in material and orientation, we leave this up to the contractor to decide methods of construction. There are two roof drains at 341 Centreville Avenue that we believe will need adjustments. It should be noted that if any major materials are required to adjust the roof drains beyond the downspout, such as a sidewalk trench drain, this work will be paid for by article 109.04. (07/21/2020)

  • For X7010216, Traffic Control and Protection (Special), will Centerville Ave. be closed to all traffic for the duration of the project? If not, will there be any closures for any duration at all?
"It was the designers/city's intention that construction activities be limited to one side of Centreville Avenue and one-way traffic shall be maintained during the day time. Centreville Avenue shall be completely open at the end of the day. Depending on the width of the construction operations, flaggers may need to be utilized during construction according to Highway Standard 701201-05. During milling/paving operations, Centreville Avenue will be closed to traffic during day time only and re-open for night traffic. The contractor will work with the city and provide appropriate detour route when a milling/paving operation is planned and scheduled." (07/09/2020)
