  • (Part 2) The plans indicate that 6 of the 8 structures have existing 2 3/8” microsilica overlays, and 2 structures have existing 2 ½” microsilica overlays. The proposed concrete overlay thickness is 2 ½”. Given the last ½” of scarification must be performed using hydro-scarification equipment, 3/8” of microsilica concrete for SN 096-0041 - 096-0046 and ½” of microsilica concrete for structures 096-0047 and 096-0048 would remain in place following mechanical scarification.
    The contractor should bid according to the Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, Highway Standards, and the plans and specifications available online. (10/21/2021)

  • (Part 1) It's my understanding the current IDOT policy regarding 2nd generation concrete overlays is to completely remove the full thickness of existing microsilica overlay by mechanical scarification (milling) prior to performing ½” hydro-scarification of the original concrete deck. This is primarily due to the fact that hydro-demolition has proven to be ineffective for removal of existing microsilica concrete, particularly for proper preparation of an existing deck for a new concrete overlay.

  • (Part 3) Should the proposed thickness of the new concrete overlays be increased to 3” to accommodate complete removal of the existing microsilica overlays on all structures by mechanical scarification?

  • It appears the General Plan & Elevation sheet for SN 096-0047 (Sheet 124 of 152) was inadvertently placed in the plans where the General Plan & Elevation sheet for SN 096-0048 should be (Sheet 135 of 152).
    Sheet 124 of the plans is correct. An addendum will be issued to address sheet 135 in the plans. Please continue to monitor the website for an update. (10/20/2021)

  • TBT 6B: Plan Sheets 30-31 and 47-48 suggests that this terminal will be installed in a modified configuration. Changing the pay item to TBT 6B Special or TBT 6B Modified would alert others that something special is going on. Please issue addendum with a change in pay item name.
    The contractor should bid according to the Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, Highway Standards, and the plans and specifications available online as they pertain to guardrail and guardrail terminals. (10/19/2021)

  • Plan Sheet 67 shows new end diaphragms at the east abutment which would be 5 each. However, the detail below says "10 Required". Plan Sheet 55 also shows new end diaphragms at the east abutment only. If 10 are required, where are the other 5?
    The note on the detail on Sheet 67 that says "10 required" is a typo. Only 5 diaphragms are needed. The quantities shown in the Bill of Materials and SOQ are correct. The typo may have been due to that there are 2 clip angles per diaphragm, so 10 of them are needed. (10/15/2021)

  • Pay Item # ( 64200116 ) Shoulder Rumble Strip 16" - 12,519 L/F, are all 16" Rumble Strip's in Concrete Pavement? Please advise
    Yes, the shoulder rumble strips will be mainly placed in PCC Pavement. The intent was for the rumble strips to be constructed where the shoulders would be removed and replaced with PCC shoulders. There may be some minor "tie-in" length with the rumble strips on the existing HMA shoulders (depending on their condition), but it shouldn't add up to any significant quantity. (10/12/2021)
