  • Note 4 on plan sheet 2 specifies a method of construction that is normally reserved for multi-lane highways and/or interstate sections and is used to eliminate potential drop-offs/drop-ins. This project is a Smart Resurfacing (mill 1.5" and overlay 1.5") on a 2-lane rural section. Are there any special circumstances/conditions or other reasoning related to this section that necessitates using this more restrictive and more expensive method of construction?
    The contractor should bid according to the Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, Highway Standards, and the plans and specifications available online. (10/20/2021)

  • General Note #4 on Plan Sheet #2 states, "All milled lanes shall be resurfaced with the appropriate surface course prior to opening the lane to traffic." By this statement the Contractor must mill the roadway, clean the milled surface, apply the prime coat and longitudinal joint sealant, and place the surface course all in the same day. Also meaning that the mill can only cut the amount of area that can be paved in the same day. Is this the Departments intent on this contract?
    The intent of the general note #4 is for the Contractor to mill and clean the surface, apply prime coat and longitudinal joint sealant, and place surface course within the same day. This would mean that the Contractor should mill can only amount of area that can be pave in a one day's course. (10/06/2021)
