  • Is all the railing painted or just the last 10'?
    1. The entire railing shall be painted. The last 10' note only applies to the weathering steel. (02/28/2020)

  • Bridge Fence Railing: RFI #1 Material requirements. Does the steel need to match the Pedestrian Truss which is weathering steel? RFI #2 Is the Bridge Fence rail part of the pedestrian truss superstructure since the welds shown on plan sheet 46 call for it to be shop welded? The specs for the truss call for railing & fencing to be included in this pay item. Please advise. Thanks
    The railing shall be shop-welded to the truss. Per GBSP33, railing on the inside face of the truss is included in the cost of PEDESTRIAN TRUSS SUPERSTRUCTURE. The pay item "BRIDGE FENCE RAILING SPECIAL" applies to the railing on the exterior face of the truss. (02/26/2020)

  • Can the top X pattern of the steel bridge rail be cut out of 1/2 ” steel plate?
    The top X pattern of the steel bridge rail may be cut out of 1/2 ” steel plate. However, the final product must match the aesthetics of the bridge. The 1” picket width must also be preserved. Additionally, the welds may need to be adjusted for that material. (02/25/2020)

  • SECTION 669. REMOVAL AND DISPOSAL OF REGULATED SUBSTANCES specifications are included with the project specifications. These specs call for pre-construction submittals (669.03), Regulated substances Daily Monitoring (669.04), as well as a final construction report submittal (669.04). Will these be included as pay items?
    1. The documentation and reporting required in the Standard Specifications shall be paid for as part of SOIL DISPOSAL ANALYSIS. Please also note that for the NON-SPECIAL WASTE DISPOSAL special provision, first paragraph, "CONTAMINATED WASTE DISPOSAL" shall be replaced with "NON-SPECIAL WASTE DISPOSAL." (02/24/2020)

  • Bridge Fence railing: In the special provisions the Chain link fabric is to be vinyl coated with the color per federal standard 595a20045. The typical standard colors for chain link is brown, black, green and white. This does not match the color 20045 which is a reddish brown tone. Please advise if there are any options or slight color shade exceptions from the frame itself. Thanks.
    1. The vinyl coating may be "brown" if color 20045 is not available. (02/24/2020)

  • Please clarify the finish for the Bridge Fence Rail (Special). Is material to be galvanized prior to coating? Is the color coat powder coat or paint?
    The material does not need to be galvanized before painting. Organic Zinc Rich Primer/ Epoxy/ urethane Paint System shall be used for painting of new structural steel railing. The entire system shall be shop applied, with the exception of the masked off connection surfaces, field installed fasteners and damaged areas shall be touched up in the field. The color of the finish coat shall be Reddish Brown, Munsell No. 2.5YE ¾. (02/21/2020)

  • Plan sheet 46 details the "Bridge Fence Railing Special". There is a note on that plan sheet intended to specify the paint system, however it has not been completed. The truss bridge is weathering steel - will the railing also be weathering steel?
    The steel railing does not need to weathering steel too. (02/21/2020)

  • It looks like the boardwalk specs call for CCA but CCA isn't appropriate for a pedestrian bridge based on it's EPA registration. It should not be used in areas with intimate skin contact like decking and railing. Will you approve using the Timber Stringer Recreation Bridge Specs for the Boardwalk? Thanks
    The Timber Stringer Recreation Bridge specification in regard to the preservative treatment can be used for the boardwalk as well. (02/21/2020)

  • Pay Items X0325110 Biaxial Geogrid 930 sy and 21001000 Geo Fabric for Grnd Stab 930 sy, are these two items listed accidentally or both needed by design?
    Both pay items are intentionally included. Geotechnical fabric for ground stabilization will be utilized in areas requiring removal and disposal of unsuitable material. Biaxial geogrid will be utilized in areas requiring stabilization but not requiring removal and disposal of unsuitable material. The final limits will be determined during construction. (02/21/2020)

  • Will "Name Plates" pay item, 3 each, be added for each pedestrian bridge structure?
    Name plates shall be provided for each pedestrian bridge structure [(2) Timber bridges and (1) Prefabricated structure) – three total]. These are the manufacturer name plates and will not be paid for separately. (02/21/2020)

  • Plan sheet 10 of 58 is actually a special provision. It appears that we are missing a plan sheet (page 3 of 4 of the demolition plan)

  • Tree removal pay items are included on the summary of quantities on plan sheet 3, but have been omitted from the pay items on the ICX web page. Will these be added to the bid proposal?
