  • Bike Rail: The detail on plan sheet 15 prescribes the use of stainless steel all-thread rods. Given that the Bike Rail is galvanized, and it’s customary to install galvanized hardware with galvanized railings, will it be acceptable to provide galvanized all-threads for this installation. IF stainless steel anchors remain, please advise the rationale behind the decision to add a level of understanding to support the deviation from an ordinary installation and the additional cost.

  • Bicycle Railing Special: RFI #1 Plan sheet 15 which shows the bike rail is not legible. Can this sheet be re-issued so the layout can be determined? RFI #2 Can you please confirm the pay quantity? The cross section(Pg 19) shows the box at appx 40' long but the railing stops several feet from the bottom. Please confirm. Thank You.

  • The specifications call for detectable warnings to be cast iron. Cast Iron detectable warnings are not available in any color from suppliers. They are delivered plain cast iron. The specifications do not call for the detectable warnings to be any specific color, they only have to contrast from the adjacent sidewalk. Please verify no color will be required and plain cast iron surfacing will suffice.
    The cast iron detectable warning panels shall not be colored and shall be plain cast iron surface. (01/07/2020)

  • Why do the specs require an IL SE seal on shop drawings and calc's for the 4:1 sloped box culvert end section? The IDOT standard design is intended to avoid this added cost, if the end is dimensioned and reinforced per the IDOT drawing; even if the end is cast in segments, as these plan anticipate.
    The precast end section detail included in the plans was developed from the IDOT Bridge Office Standard Detail, but was modified slightly to fit the needs of this project and therefore doesn't fall under a "standard detail" any longer. The Contractor will need to have the precaster prepare shop drawings for the minor changes to the standard detail and will then need to have an IL SE seal the drawings with these modifications.
