  • 3. Please provide the as built plans for the HMA median, where the existing Type D Guardrail is. If not available, what is the expected depth of HMA?

  • There are some areas of guardrail that have a pipe type railing attached to it. Q1: Will IDOT be adding a unit price for guardrail removal special, or pipe handrail removal?
    The project should be bid according to the Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction and the plans and specifications available online. (06/04/2020)

  • ITEM X9700021 Lump Sum Mobile Barrier Trailer: Q: Please confirm that only one (1) trailer is included with this pay item. Q: Is this intended for use with a specific operation or simply the approach end of a lane closure? Q: Can you provide a photo of the device you possess?
    Yes, only one trailer is included and will be supplied by the department. The truck to pull the unit is to be supplied by the contractor as the spec. states. The unit is to provide a safer work area, and is to be used in conjunction with proposed Traffic Control. A picture showing what the device will look like will be placed in the ADDITIONAL INFORMATION file online. (06/03/2020)

  • Median Guardrail on PCC : Please confirm that it will be acceptable to core a 12” or 14” diameter hole in the PCC median as opposed to the elongated holes detailed in 630001-12.
    This work shall be done as detailed in standard 630001-12. (05/27/2020)

  • It appears to be a spur track on the east end of the job, will there be a need for Railroad Insurance or Railroad Flaggers? IF yes, please advise the railroad owner, train traffic particulars, required safety trainings and the need for flaggers, along with how this will be compensated?
    The proposed work location in relation to the track location is not expected to involve railroad coordination. (05/22/2020)

  • Traffic Control pay item are usually a lump sum item. Item X7010100 Traffic Control Protection 701421 is a 2 Each Pay Item. Q1: Is 2 Each correct? Q2: If so, can you please explain how we get to 2 Each, to be fully compensated for Traffic Control?
    Pay Item X7010100 Traffic Control Protection 701421, 2 Each is correct. Both inside lanes will be shut down using TRAFFIC CONTROL AND PROTECTION STANDARD 701421 when replacing the Type D guardrail to allow room for the contactor to work safely. Each side of the median shall be considered as 1 each for this work. (05/22/2020)

  • Will the backside of Guardrail D be paid per lineal foot for removal, or will it be incidental to guardrail removal?
    All of the Guardrail D is to be included in the pay item for guardrail removal. (05/22/2020)

  • Traffic Control: Please advise what IDOT will require for lane closures while work is being performed in the median? A single lane closure on one side of the median OR a single lane closure in each direction of traffic on each side of the median.
    The intent is to shut down both inside lanes when replacing the Type D guardrail to allow room for the contactor to work safely. From Special Provision TRAFFIC CONTROL AND PROTECTION STANDARD 701421: This standard shall be used to shut the inside lanes of IL 100 to traffic in both directions during the removal and replacement of the Steel Plate Beam Guardrail, Type D in the roadway median.   • 1. Please provide a run by run breakdown/start and stop stations for the Guardrail Type D; as the quantities provided are in an aggregate form and they are not included in the schedule of quantities on page 9. 2. How will the Guardrail Type D be terminated at each end?
    Question 1: An addendum will be issued to address this. Question 2: sheet 10 will be revised with an added schedule to provide additional information for the Type D guardrail located In the median. (05/19/2020)

  • 4. The median at M.P. 4.96, where it appears the proposed Type D Guardrail is going, looks like concrete. Please prove the as built plans for the potential concrete median. If unavailable, what is the expected depth of concrete? Or is the median HMA? If HMA, what is the depth?
