  • Will the contractor be compensated for additional expenses, such as traffic control / track monitoring if the railroad construction is longer than the suggested 400 CD?
Contractor shall be eligible for compensation of additional expenses due to delay in railroad construction. (06/10/2020)

  • Will the GC be responsible to include work by the BNSF in the track monitoring program or is the track monitoring only for work performed by the GC? If the track monitoring is to be performed for work done by the BNSF, please provide the number of days that the track will need to be monitored for railroad installed work.
Track monitoring is required for work performed only by the GC. (06/10/2020)

  • Will the GC be able to perform the structure excavation during the phased track shutdowns prior to beams being set or will the structure excavation have to be performed underneath the new bridges?
It is anticipated that BNSF will not allow work on structure excavation until the bridge is complete. (06/10/2020)

  • According to the Traffic Control and Protection specifications, the GC is to provide both the Flagging and Temp Lane Closures for the BNSF's work. WIthout knowing a detailed scheduled of the BNSF's work, it is very hard for the GC's to include the correct costs. Please provide how many closures / flagging days will be needed for the BNSF's work. If this cannot be provided, please add an Allowance Item in the bid to account for this work.
The suggested project schedule shown on Sheet 2 provides an anticipated timeline to provide Traffic Control and Protection. Flaggers for the local roads will not be needed by BNSF and is not required in the contract documents. (06/10/2020)

  • The project schedule shown on Sheet 2 of the plans details the Structure Excavation and Pedestrian Structure construction occurring after the bridges are built. The pedestrian structure plans detail that the tunnel will be built in two phases. Is the intent for the contractor to build the tunnel in phases during bridge construction or after the bridges are finished?
It is anticipated that the contractor will be able to construct the tunnel only after railroad bridge construction is complete. The tunnel can be built in one stage (06/10/2020)

  • Regarding the retaining wall. The bid item calls for Segmental Concrete Block Wall but Sheet no. 45 shows a Precast Modular Retaining Wall. Will Segmental walls be accepted or only Precast Modular. Also on that same sheet (no 45) the call out is for several feet of embedment in section A-A and section B-B, but the theoretical top of leveling pad elevation is less than a foot from the T/Walk elevation. Which should be used in wall design and for figuring wall quantity for pay out?
Only Precast Modular will be acceptable. Disregard minimum depths called out on section A-A and B-B views. Build per Elevation view. (06/10/2020)

  • 1. The contract has 135 WD to complete the work. The suggested project schedule shown on Sheet 2 of the Plans has a much longer time frame. Will the days that the BNSF forces are working not be counted toward the contractor's Working Days? 2. The amount of time shown in the suggested schedule for the railroad to complete their work is shown as 400 days. This seems to be excessive for the scope of bridge work. Please clarify.
    1. There will be a period where work cannot continue until BNSF is finished constructing the bridge. Those days waiting for BNSF will not be counted toward working days. 2. The time frame of 400 days to complete bridge construction was requested by BNSF. The long duration is due to narrow track shutdown windows, equipment availability and manpower availability.
