Ask Subscribe Questions and Answers (15 Submitted / 15 Answered ) Questions not accepted as of July 20, 2021 04:30 PM.

  • Could the curve data, superelevation rates and transitions to super be provided for each curve?
The curve data information will be provided to the Resident Engineer. After the contract is executed, the contractor can request the information if needed. (07/21/2021)

  • HMA: The cross sections do not illustrate the guardrail and the plans do not clearly identify if the guardrail will be positioned in an aggregate or HMA / WMA shoulder. Please amend the cross sections OR declare what type of shoulder the guardrail posts will be driven in to. IF HMA, advise depth of HMA surface.
The guardrail should be placed on the earth shoulder as shown on the cross sections and on standard 630301. (07/20/2021)

  • The existing structural plans for 028-0006 and 028-0007 provided as Additional Information do not appear to provide details of the 1993 and 1994 modifications to the structures. Notes on Plan Sheet 165 state the decks were replaced in 1993 and 1994. Were stud shear connectors added to the W36x170 beams as part of the 1993/1994 improvements?
The existing plans for the 1993/1994 improvements will be posted on the website. Please continue to monitor the site for updates. (07/19/2021)

  • The joint detail of concrete pavement on sheet 220 in the plans calls out #6 smooth bars at 36" centers. Was the actual intent for these #6 bars to be deformed #6 tie bars typically used for longitudinal construction joints as called out in standard 420001-09
An addendum will be issued to address this issue. Please continue to monitor the website for updates. (07/16/2021)

  • The cross sections show the barrier wall having a flat section at the bottom of the wall when the pavement is in a superelevation on the low side shoulder . The standards shows that flat section on the top of the low side shoulder. Which drawing is correct and will be acceptable for this project?
The concrete barrier wall should be constructed according to Standard 637006. (07/16/2021)

  • Will Modified Urethane be allowed in lieu of polyurea?
Polyurea shall be used for this contract. Modified Urethane will not be allowed. (07/16/2021)

  • The contract includes 17 CY of Concrete Removal. The I-57 REMOVAL plan sheets 118 - 133 and GUARDRAIL SCHEDULE ( sheets 36 and 37) indicate this work may be associated with existing pier crash walls at structures 028-0057, 028-0022, 028-0054 and 028-0062. No details of the Concrete Removal at these locations appear to be provided in the plans.
An addendum will be issued to address this issue. Please continue to monitor the website for updates. (07/16/2021)

  • The shoulders are overlaid in Stages 1 and 2 before shifting traffic. Will Type 3 Tape required on the new shoulders since it will be the final surface? Will Type 3 Tape be required in Stages 4, 5 & 6 on final surfaces?
The contractor should bid according to the Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, Highway Standards, and the plans and specifications available online. In particular, the pavement markings for shifting traffic onto final surfaces should follow BDE Special Provision Temporary Pavement Marking as shown. "Type I marking tape or paint shall be used at the option of the Contractor, except paint shall not be applied to the final wearing surface unless authorized by the Engineer for late season applications where tape adhesion would be a problem. Type III or Type IV marking tape shall be used on the final wearing surface when the temporary pavement marking will conflict with the permanent pavement marking such as on tapers, crossovers and lane shifts.” (07/16/2021)

  • The joint detail of concrete pavement alternate B on sheet 220 in the plans does not show any longitudinal joints in the shoulder pavement. Will a longitudinal construction joint be permitted at each side of the barrier wall? Will any other longitudinal joints be required in the 18.5' wide shoulder pavement
An addendum will be issued to help clarify this issue. It has a longitudinal joint at a maximum of 12' from edge of shoulder. The concrete barrier shall be constructed according to one of the options shown on Standard 637006. Please continue to monitor the website for updates. (07/16/2021)

  • The typical sections for Alternate B shows the stabilized subbase and the shoulder pavement under the barrier wall as being the Barrier Wall Base. The quantities do not reflect this 3' wide area under the Barrier Wall. Will there be a pay item added for the Concrete Barrier Base per IDOT Spec 637.12?
The quantities were included in the pay items Portland Cement Concrete Shoulders, 10 1/2", Stabilized Subbase, 4", and Subbase Granular Material, 10". (07/16/2021)

  • The plans go from plan sheet 231 to 236. Where sheets 232-235 omitted?
As shown on the Index of Sheets on sheet 3 of the plans, sheets 232-235 were deleted from the plans. (07/16/2021)

  • Are there any restriction of delivery material or removal of excess material at daytime as long as two lanes remain open?
An addendum will be issued to address this question. Please continue to monitor the website for updates. (07/16/2021)

  • Can IDOT make vectorized .pdf's of the cross section sheets available to contractors?
The available plan sheets are already vectorized. (07/13/2021)

  • Would it be possible to make the structural plans available for existing structures 028-0006 and 028-0007?
Structural plans will be made available for the existing structures. Please continue to monitor the website for updates. (07/13/2021)

  • Would IDOT consider adding additional ALTERNATES, to allow for the New Median Shoulders & New Driving Lane to utilize a different pavement Alternate vs. the Existing Driving Lanes & Outside Shoulders in the Full Depth Replacement areas? The additional Alternates would allow the quantities to be split up between the median work and the replacement areas.
The contractor should bid according to the Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, Highway Standards, and the plans and specifications available online. After the contract has been executed, the contractor may submit value engineering proposals for a different pavement alternative. (07/13/2021)
