  • There are a few locations that are calling for temporary concrete barrier as permanent traffic control for the sign structure work. Will it be allowable for the contractor to work nights in lieu of using temporary concrete barriers? Or are the temporary concrete barriers and temporary striping absolutely going to be required?
    Please bid the contract according to the published documents. (01/16/2019)

  • Sheet number 84 shows an illustration of grounding going up the right side of the overhead sign structure to a ground bus in the DMS sign. The left side also NOTES for a ground conductor bonded up the structure, but does not show the grounding illustrated on the sign. Please confirm if grounding is to be included on the left side.
    Grounding should be provided on the left leg of the sign structure and connected to the bus bar in the sign. (01/16/2019)

  • The Proposed Fiber Optic Backbone plan sheets (56-77) call for the access points for the microduct to be 'Heavy Duty Handholes'. However, the SOQ as well as the Summary of ITS Quantities states that the Fiber Backbone includes 60 'Communications Vaults' and 0 'Heavy Duty Handholes'. Please confirm which is to be used for the Fiber Backbone.
    The access points for the microduct should be communications vaults as indicated in the SOQ (01/10/2019)

  • For the 2" fiber optic multi-duct, according to a cut sheet from Duraline, it seems that the 2" duct can only house 5 of the 16mm microducts, or 7 microducts at 12.7mm. Please confirm the size and count of the microducts for this 2 inch multi-duct.
    The use of (7) 16 mm OD/13 mm ID microducts inside an overall 2" conduit as called for in the contract documents is correct. (01/10/2019)

  • Some of the locations that will receive new topsoil and compost and currently covered in dead trees and miscellaneous branches. Please advise as to how any required site clearing will be paid.
    The Department is in the process of issuing an addendum, please monitor the website for the addendum. (01/10/2019)

  • Pay item 81101005 calls for 4" PVC Coated Galvanized Steel. However, on the plans this conduit is denoted as "4 IN. PGSC, SS". Please confirm whether this attached conduit is supposed to be PVC Coated or Stainless Steel.
    The attached conduit for the structure crossings should be PVC coated - the use of Item #81101005 as reflected in the Summary of Quantities is correct. (01/08/2019)

  • What will be required to be submitted to document and confirm FCC Part 15 Compliance by the manufacturer / supplier of the DMS and other electronic devices? When and how is this FCC Compliance 3rd party Testing information to be submitted ?
    Part 15 compliance is required (as testing at an authorized laboratory and authorization by the FCC is required by federal regulations prior to any marketing in the United States) and should be called out in submittals, but submittal of third party test reports is not required.” (01/08/2019)

  • For the Roadside Detectors, please confirm whether the Contractor or IDOT is responsible for supplying the SIM cards.
    The ROADSIDE DETECTOR SP calls for the Sim cards for the cell modems to be provided by the Department. While the former is more common, "Sim Card" and "Sim Chip" are synonymous terms. (01/07/2019)

  • On plan page 19, stage 1 note #1 indicates that are 701400 at each location. Will there be 701400 at all locations?
    Highway Standard 701400 is to be used only when lane closure(s) will be utilized. (01/04/2019)

  • Will the DMS be required to meet the current NEMA TS4 2016 specifications?
    Signs are required to conform to portions of NEMA TS-4 2016 as noted in the contract specifications. (01/04/2019)

  • The Font that is used in the specifications does not read correctly, should read 368 dots composed of a 23 rows high x 16 pixel spacing with 4 pixel spacing between characters. page 75 - The matrix system for a high resolution, full color display shall consist of 384 dots composed of 24 columns and 16 rows.
    The Department is in the process of issuing an addendum to address the question. Contractors should monitor the website for the Addendum. (01/04/2019)
