  • The specification for fiber optic cable notes that delineator posts are incidental to the pay item. Please provide more information on this including manufacturer, model number, how often these are to be installed, etc.
The delineator posts are listed as an example of "ancillary components." The purpose of this spec language is to require that the Contractor provide all necessary items to install the Fiber Optic Cable in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications and all requirements in the contract document. (01/15/2019)

  • The specification for underground microduct conduit states a warning tape is to be installed above the conduit. This is impossible during directional boring, please clarify where this is required.
The warning tape only needs to be installed at locations where the conduit is installed via an open trench method. See Note 10 on the General Notes sheet. (01/15/2019)

  • Please specify how the contractor is compensated for the removal and disposal of potentially hazardous, contaminated, or special waste spoils.
Refer to the Special Provision Removal and Disposal of Regulated Substances (BDE) in the contract specifications. Pay items and quantities are included to handle these materials. (01/15/2019)

  • Please confirm all splicing and testing of fiber optic cable is not part of the scope of this contract.
The Contractor is required to test the fiber optic system. See Note 2 on the Interconnect System Topology sheet and the contract specifications for requirements. The Contractor is to install the fiber optic cable with the minimum number of splices possible which is theoretically none. If it is determined that splicing is required, see the Fiber Optic Cable, Micro, Single Mode specification for cable splicing requirements. (01/15/2019)

  • How will the contractor be compensated for guardrail removal & replacement which may be required?
Based on the layout provided in the Fiber Optic and Restoration Plan, it is not anticipated that guardrail removal and replacement will be required. As required in the contract, it is the Contractor's responsibility to make adjustments to minimize the amount of restoration required. (01/15/2019)

  • Please specify the Will County DOT contact to determine permit costs required per General Note 13, plan sheet 3.
The Contractor can contact Kyle Catalano at Will County (815-727-8476) to acquire this information. (01/15/2019)

  • What are the restoration requirements for utility potholes in the street/hard surface environment?
Nominal quantities and pay items for restoration items have been provided and are to be utilized in accordance with the contract document. See Note 15 on the General Notes sheet. (01/15/2019)

  • How is the contractor compensated for potholes to expose existing utilities in the street / hard surface environment? This project will require several of these openings due to the large number of existing utilities, especially in the downtown Joliet area making it potentially unsafe to directional bore.
The pay item EXPLORATION TRENCH 48" DEPTH has been provided for this purpose. See Note 15 on the General Notes sheet for more information. (01/15/2019)

  • If the conduit in the street is to be trenched, please specify what the restoration requirements are in each environment (i.e. PCC pavement, asphalt pavement, etc.), and add the corresponding pay items and quantities to the schedule of prices.
See Note 15 on the General Notes sheet. The notes specify that directional boring shall be utilized except as noted. Quantities and pay items for restoration items of any boring pit locations have been provided and are to be utilized in accordance with the contract document. (01/15/2019)

  • Several plan sheets show the conduit running line in the street. Is it IDOT’s intent for this to be directionally bored, or open-cut trenched?
See Notes 7 and 8 on the General Notes sheet. Also, see notes on the Fiber Optic and Restoration Plan sheets for locations with specific installation requirements. The notes specify that directional boring shall be utilized except as noted. (01/15/2019)

  • Please provide soil borings along the entire fiber optic running line route.
Geotechnical information was not obtained during the design of this contract. (01/15/2019)

  • It is well known that shallow rock exists throughout the Joliet area. Please advise how the contractor shall be compensated for delays and additional tooling associated with directional boring in rock and/or rock excavation.
This was addressed in the published addendum. (01/15/2019)

  • Please provide soil borings along the entire route where work is to be completed on this contract.
Geotechnical information was not obtained during the design of this contract. (01/15/2019)
