  • Please confirm that the Stair Railing (XX006751) and Steel Railing Special (Z0007124) items will need to be fabricated by a shop certified by AISC as prescribed in IDOT Article 106.08 ‘Certification of Metal Fabricators’.
Steel fabrication will follow the standard specifications. (01/06/2021)

  • This question is regarding page 46 of 65, west MSE wall plan and details, the drawing show soil reinforcement not connected to any wall. Note that their section at the ramp is misleading in that the tallest section of the West Wall will be almost completely back to back with the middle wall, leaving only less than 10 ft. between the walls for soil reinforcement. This is less than 0.4H. Can we get clarification of what that soil reinforcement floating between the walls is supposed to be?
MSE wall design is to be completed by the wall supplier including fill material and layout of soil reinforcement. While the space between walls is limited, Geotechnical Engineers and MSE wall designers consulted during design concurred that such a design is feasible. (01/06/2021)

  • For the piles on the abutments, the plans require tar epoxy from the bottom of the select fill for the MSE wall to 1” about the bottom of the abutment. Is there a specification on what this epoxy needs to be?
The coal tar epoxy will not be required as part of the Furnish Metal Shell Piles at either abutment. (01/06/2021)

  • For the test pile, what testing program needs to be carried out on the pile? I didn’t see any details in the specifications that discuss what type of test we would need to perform on the pile
Test piles shall be driven per Section 512 of the IDOT Standard Specifications. (01/06/2021)

  • What is the maximum proximity workers and equipment can operate from the existing overhead powerlines running parallel to the tracks?
The aerial lines parallel to the railroad tracks will be relocated to underground facilities prior to construction. (01/06/2021)

  • Will the overhead power lines be removed or taken out of service for construction? If not please confirm the max proximity contractors can work from them.
The aerial lines parallel to the railroad tracks will be relocated to underground facilities prior to construction. (01/06/2021)

  • What is the voltage the power lines running parallel to the tracks? Machines will be within 15' of them, please confirm this will be allowed.
The aerial lines parallel to the railroad tracks will be relocated to underground facilities prior to construction. (01/06/2021)

  • Are the plans correct on conducting a load test on the battered pile in pier 1?
Load tests shall be completed in accordance with the standard specifications. (01/06/2021)

  • Special Provision page 9 calls out a Temporary Fence 6’. There is no provision or pay item for a temporary gate. In this case it is likely a 20-24’ wide opening for a double swing gate would be appropriate. Please add a pay item for a temporary gate.
Temporary Chain Link Fence is for use by the Contractor as-needed and any modifications to the fence including access and security features such as a gate is considered included in the pay item for Temporary Chain Link Fence. (01/06/2021)

  • Can AASTHO M270 Grade 50W weathering steel be used for the prefabricated truss provided bridge is painted in accordance with the requirements in 1008.05 of the Standard Specification for a painted structure?
Use of Weathering Steel is not required for the pedestrian truss superstructure, however, weathering steel painted per the plans and specifications will be acceptable. (01/05/2021)

  • Will track crossings be allowed for equipment mobilization from one side to the other?
    No. (01/05/2021)

  • Plan sheet 35 describes a steel handrail with ‘Safety Grip Finish’. Please elaborate on what this is specifically or confirm that this is a way to describe the 1 5/8” OD handrail.
The safety grip finish means a smooth finish with no protrusions, spurs or deformations (that doesn't require anything more than what is already covered by the details and specs). (01/04/2021)

  • Steel Railing (Special): Question #1 Coating requirement-The plans & specs call for this rail to be coated with a 3 part paint system. Since this is a tubular frame will this also be required to be galvanized first? Question #2 Will there be additional time allowed(Past the 100 WD's) to field survey the completed East & West ramps to ensure proper fit up of this railing? Thanks.
Response #1: The Steel Railing (Special) shall be painted per the plans and specifications without being galvanized. Response #2: Additional working days will not be allotted. (12/30/2020)

  • Is there another area aside from McKinely Ave getting HMA work? The binder and surface quantities appear to be more than required for the HMA pavement recon.
An addendum will be issued. (12/17/2020)

  • Regarding Special Provisions for Form Liner Textured Surface. For Custom Rock and Green Streak, the owner has specified a Pattern Number. For the third supplier, Fitzgerald Formliners, a pattern number is not provided, please provide the acceptable pattern number from the catalogue of Fitzegerald formliners
An comparable pattern from Fitzgerald Formliners will be Sierra Drystack #17033. (12/15/2020)

  • Would a prefabricated aluminum pedestrian bridge be accepted for the truss superstructure?
A prefabricated aluminum pedestrian bridge will not be accepted. (12/09/2020)
