  • How will RR flagging be paid for? Per the IHB RR ROE package on page 9 of the spec provisions, it states that "an IHB flagman will be provided at the entire cost and expense of the work's owner and/or the applicant"
    This item will be reimbursed to contractor as per standard specification, article 109.05. (01/06/2021)

  • Can you show railroad's ROW in the contract drawings?
    The Department is in the process of compiling the requested information and will post it to the additional information folder on the website. Contractors should monitor the website for the updated information. (01/05/2021)

  • There is no pay item for RR Protective Liability Insurance. Will a pay item be added in an addendum?
    The Department is in the process of issuing an addendum. Please monitor the website for the addendum. (01/05/2021)

  • Reference Contract Special Provisions sheet 6 "Railroad Protective Liability Insurance" regarding the work shown in the Contract Plans within the RR ROW, requiring Item Z0048665 Railroad Protective Liability Insurance. This pay item currently does not exist, please clarify.
    The Department is in the process of issuing an addendum. Please monitor the website for the addendum. (01/05/2021)

  • Per a General Note on Sheet No. 34 in the Contract Plans, "All new structural steel shall be galvanized. See Special Provision for 'Hot Dip Galvanizing for Structural Steel'." The Special Provision then states that this includes "painting of galvanized structural steel when specified on the plans." There does not appear to be any system of paint specified. Please clarify if a galvanized finish is the intended final surface finish.
    There is no painting needed except for the contact surfaces. The galvanizing is the intended final finish. (01/05/2021)

  • Limits for the Protective Shield is not shown in the contract drawings. Is it really required except for the spans over the railroad tracks? All other areas are open underneath.
    The quantity and limits provided on the deck plan sheet (S-06 to S-10) provide for the maximum amount that could be required. If protective shield is not installed in open spans, the contractor shall take proper precautions to prevent debris for falling on people or objects. Note the limits of the protective shield may be adjusted per the final Right of Entry agreement with the railroad. The requirements of the ROE will be binding and will supersede what is shown on the bid document. (12/22/2020)

  • Reference Special Provisions sheets 78-89 - Bridge Deck Latex Concrete Overlay. Fibers are referenced in the "Materials" section and also in "Note 3", but not listed in the "Mixture Design" -- please clarify if fibers are required. We understand that IDOT was planning on making fibers optional again and will be at designer or district discretion.
    Fibers will be made optional on a future letting, but that revision to the specification has not yet been implemented. For contracts on the January letting, fibers are required. (12/17/2020)

  • What Bearing type are existing bearings?
    In the 1994 drawings the bearings at the North and South Abutment, Pier 5, Pier 6, Pier 10 and Pier 11 were replaced with elastomeric Type I and II bearings. The other piers are fixed or expansion steel bearings (12/16/2020)
