In regards to the note within the Special Provisions page 3 under "Shoulder Wedge", does the 1" sieve shoulder gradation pertain only to the Aggregate Shoulders, Ty A wedge being placed or also to the millings and shoulder excavation material that is to be placed on the embankment prior to constructing the Aggregate Shoulders as noted under "Millings"? Screening of this milled material, if needed, would vastly increase the project cost.
The intent is not to have the contractor bring a sieve to the field to sieve the millings or shoulder excavation; however, there should not be any large chunks left on the edge/shoulder of the road. (06/07/2022)
