  • Regarding steel Repair “E” on plan 45 & 47 - Plan 45 legend for repair “E” does not indicate “typical”. Other repairs, such as “C” are designated at each multiple repair location. However there is a “bold” line at all 30 pier bearing locations on plan 45 – does this “bold” line legend apply to repair “E” or to the “top cover plate repair” (plan 48)? Overall question – is there 1 each or 30 each repair “E” ?
There is only 1 each of repair “E”. (02/22/2021)

  • In your response to the oil, you mentions SBS pg 64-28. This is not what you have on the plans. A poly vs non poly is a huge difference in my cost because of the oil price and amount of recycle I can put into the mix. So to be clear I’m disregarding the SBS 64-28 that was stated in the response and is more abundant, and bidding with the less abundant and not likely attainable pg 64-28. Correct?
An addendum will be issued. (02/18/2021)

  • Is it the intent of the temporary sheet piling note on plan 15 (cut temp sheet piling min 1’ below subgrade) that the “temporary” sheeting must be abandoned in place and not extracted / removed / salvaged?
The Contractor may elect to cut and leave the temporary sheet piling in place or extract/remove/salvage after the Engineer determines it is no longer needed per special provisions and standard specifications. The note on sheet 15 of 109 (cut temporary sheet piling min. 1’ below subgrade) is only applicable when the temporary sheeting is left in place. (02/17/2021)

  • Given the overall staging, scope of painting, and scope of bridge work, completion of all concrete work by OCT 01, 2021 is difficult to achieve (special provision page 1). Please consider extending the concrete work completion date to the project completion date of NOV 19 to avoid unnecessary acceleration costs.
An addendum will be issued. (02/17/2021)

  • So are we just going to bid knowing there will be a change order because a PG64-28 isn't readily available, especially at the tonnage that this job is calling for.
As of January 15, 2021, there are multiple producers of SBS PG 64-28 listed on IDOT’s qualified producer list. Substitution of an equal or better asphalt material may be allowed during construction with prior approval from IDOT’s Bureau of Materials. (02/16/2021)

  • On the fixed bearings at Pier 2 shown on plan sheet 49, the proposed bearing top plate is attached to the existing bottom girder flange with a weld, however it is shown as a shop weld. Is it the intent of the Department that this is a field weld?
An addendum will be issued. (02/16/2021)

  • Regarding pay item “conc removal” - This includes the abutment backwalls, but also conc superstructure removal. Decks are typically measured “lump sum” to avoid measurement and quantity issues – could the deck be removed from this pay item & changed to “removal of existing concrete deck” paid as lump sum?
The existing deck removal shall remain paid under the Concrete Removal (cu.yd.) pay-item as shown on the plans. A special provision will be added to clarify limits and measurements. (02/16/2021)

  • Regarding pay item “conc removal” - per “schedule of quantities” on plan sheet 09, bridge approach slab removal is included in “pavement removal”. But plan sheet 44 includes “conc removal” quantity for appr slabs in “conc removal” pay item? Please consider adding “approach slab removal” per SY for this work in lieu of “concrete removal” or “pavement removal”.
An addendum will be issued. (02/16/2021)

  • How is the removal of the existing HMA wearing surface being paid for on the existing structure?
An addendum will be issued. (02/16/2021)

  • Please clarify details regarding abutment excavation and protection, reference plan 33 & 54: • The foam width is different, 10.5’ vs 6.85’ • Backslopes are different, 1.49:1 vs 1:1 • Overall excavation length varies, 37’ vs 25’ • Plan 30 - Are all sheets beyond 40’ incidental (to a LS item)? The 6’ tall sheets shown on the plan appear to be in the plan quantity for temp sheeting (SF) • Plan 33 refers to “transition sheets” – please define ‘transition sheets’, and the length of that wall
On pg. 33 of 109, Section A-A is cut along CL roadway. On pg. 54 of 109, Section thru semi-integral abutment is right angles to the back of abutment as shown on the plans. This results in different slopes & lengths on these details. Only the Transition Sheets denoted by ** on sheet 33 are paid as L SUM under the pay-item Geotechnical Reinforcement. Yes, the 6' tall sheets have been included for payment for Temporary Sheet Piling (SQ FT) along the stage line transition but beyond the ** region. The 23'-11” (Sheet 33, Section A-A) run of “Transition Sheet” piling is a minimum run along CL Roadway to install an estimated length of reinforcement straps. If the Geotechnical designer can satisfy the code requirements within the 40' “Max Cut + Transition” run, then ** = 0. If the Geotechnical designer requires additional strap length, then ** = the length required to install longer straps and would be deducted from the “Min Cut” run in the 4 quadrants. (02/16/2021)

  • Do we nee to attach the Geotechnical Reinforcement behind the abutments (see sheet 54 - Abutment Backfill Details) to the backwall or can we just place the Geotechnical Reinforcement behind the backwall without attaching them to the backwall?
The Geotechnical Reinforcement shall be attached to the backwall and shall be designed for the pressure/forces indicated on the plans (sheet 54 of 109). This connection shall follow the Geotechnical Reinforcement special provision (pgs. 7-12). (02/08/2021)

  • What is the required permanent sheet piling section modulus for the placement under the abutment wing walls
An addendum will be posted. (02/08/2021)

  • Reference plan page 56, the note coordinating segmental wall with form liner and color of bridge parapet. We don’t find form liner and color for bridge parapet.
An addendum will be issued. (02/04/2021)
