  • AISC: Strong Post Guardrail: Q1: Please confirm that the fabrications associated with the Strong Post Guardrail Standard will need to be performed by a fabrication shop certified by AISC as prescribed in IDOT Article 106.08 ‘Certification of Metal Fabricators’.
    Yes. According to the highway standard and the AISC Certification Standard for Steel Fabrication and Erection and Manufacturing of Metal Components, bridge rail is specifically cited as a component that is covered by the AISC spec. (03/05/2018)

  • Location 17: There are two runs of guardrail running parallel with each other, one run on the roadway (west) side of the sidewalk and the other on the east side of the sidewalk. The schedule calls for 285LF of removal. Please confirm that both runs of guardrail will be removed and only the one run east of the sidewalk will be replaced with new guardrail.
    The plans are correct. (03/01/2018)

  • Location 19: Please review and confirm the coordinates for this run. What is provided appears to have a tangent terminal on the departing end of the one of two runs of guardrails. This location is unclear and needs more detail. Does the new guardrail attach to existing guardrail or require another terminal?
    An addendum is forthcoming on this issue. The coordinates are accurate. This location will be redrawn for greater detail and a new TBT 2 will be added. (03/01/2018)

  • Location 18: Concrete slopewall appx 175+ LF Q1: Will the new guardrail post be driven back into the existing holes without modifying the shape of the hole? Q2a: If modifying the hole size is needed, please provide as-built drawings to determine the concrete depth and type of construction that can be expected. Q2b: How will the PCC coring be paid? 109.04 force account, especially if the as-builts are not available & there is no way to define depth of PCC or how the slopewall is constructed.
    As-builts were not available. Article 109.04 of the Standard Specifications will apply. (03/01/2018)

  • Guardrail: Location: Various: The schedule on plan sheet 4 prescribes 10 Each Traffic Barrier Type 5A. Please add a pay item for this terminal. Location 11: Will TBT 5A be required at this location or will the new guardrail attach to the existing terminals? IF TBT 5A’s are added to the schedule of quantities, will the guardrail quantities be adjusted to accommodate the terminals?
    An addendum is forthcoming on this issue. The schedule will be revised. Guardrail is to be attached to the existing terminals. (03/01/2018)
