  • Why is the total of impacted soil to be excavated shown to balance the total embankment when that excavation is not shown on the cross sections to be required to build the section?
The point of the Impacted Soils columns is to show that there will be additional effort by the contractor to use the all the Impacted Soils on the jobsite. The berm left of station 3+50 to station 19+00 and left of station 120+00 to station 127+00 as well as the expanded slopes between station 64+00 and station 65+00 were included to insure the entire quantity of Impacted Soils from the PSI are used in the embankment. Since the Impacted Soils do not always coincide with the embankment areas the contractor will need take into account the trucking involved in moving the Impacted Soils to the embankment areas. The quantities in the Impacted Soils columns should have matched the quantities in the Earth Excavation column. The mistake was due to the PSI quantities being estimates and being based on property lines instead of stationing. The actual limits and quantities of Impacted Soils will be determined by the environmental contractor. (02/28/2018)

  • Regarding your answer to the "Impacted Soils" being included in the Earth Excavation, there are some balances in the Earthwork Schedule that do not add up. For example from Sta 10+00 to 20+00 the impacted quantity exceeds the earth excavation quantity.

  • Assuming the tree removal dates are for the Indiana bat, will there be a survey or some other sort of waiver to allow the trees to be removed within these dates? If not this project could be held up until 2019.
In accordance with the federal law associated with the Endangered Species Act, the tree removal restriction dates are to be adhered to. (02/28/2018)

  • 1) Is special waste Excavation included in Earth Excavation pay item 2) Is Impacted Soil Excavation included in Earth Excavation 3) Were is the impacted excavation? Impacted Soil schedule does not match the cross section.
    1) Yes and the disposal is included in the pay item Special Waste Disposal 2) Yes 3) The Impacted Soil are soils that are classified as special waste due to low PH but can be used on the job site. Therefore the Impacted soils must be left on the jobsite and any waste excavation shall be taken from locations not listed in the PSI. The Impacted Soil Schedule is taken from the PSI and the quantities are estimates only. The actual quantity and limits will be determined by the environmental contractor. (02/26/2018)

  • I would like to request a copy of the Phase 1 Preliminary Engineering information so that we may see the analytical results of the soil borings that were collected.
An addendum is forthcoming on this issue. The final PSI report will be available as additional information with the construction documents on the website. (02/20/2018)
